Our Research Themes

Bu Research Chronicle Our Research Themes

We are delighted to introduce Bournemouth University’s Research Chronicle – an opportunity to showcase our outstanding research talent. Organised around the following eight societally-driven themes, our research tackles key global challenges to enrich the world in which we live.

Creative & Digital Economies

As a world leader in computer animation, media production and marketing and communications, we provide solutions to the creative industries throughout the UK and overseas. With additional experts in media copyright, software systems and artificial intelligence, we are also contributing to one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy.

Culture & Society

Changing culture and society, both past and present, often brings conflict and violence and raises issues of security, welfare and social protection. We work across all these fields, focussing on both ancient civilisations and today’s world. Our experts also study the media’s role in socio-cultural and political change and are thought leaders on this contentious subject.

Entrepreneurship & Economic Growth

Driving innovation and economic growth through business incubation, leadership and management, human resources and organisational behaviour is the key to the UK’s economic recovery and we have staff working regionally and internationally in all these areas.

Environmental Change & Biodiversity

In a period of unprecedented environmental change we are world leaders in understanding and developing policy to manage the impact. We have specialists in conservation and restoration ecology, freshwater and marine ecology, microbiology, ecological modelling and extinction rates. They work on local, national and international environmental agendas informing policy at all levels.

Green Economy & Sustainability

The need for sustainable solutions is becoming ever more apparent and our staff contribute at all levels to this agenda. They work in fields such as renewable energy, biodiversity and conservation, sustainable tourism, sustainable development, green attitudes, behaviors and change management.

Health, Wellbeing & Ageing

With an ageing population in which problems of social care, dementia and quality of life are at the fore, we actively make a difference through primary research and new or enhanced practice interventions, which change people’s lives directly.

Leisure & Recreation

With one of the leading centres for tourism education and research within the UK we contribute internationally to research and practice development in areas such as wellbeing through leisure, recreation and sport management, sustainable futures, tourism management, forecasting and development planning and disaster management. We are also pioneers in the field of eTourism research.

Technology & Design

Good design is at the heart of an innovative society able to tackle the challenges of an ageing population and economic growth, while balancing the need for long term sustainability. We have SPLK-1001 dumps design engineers at Dumpsadviser working on biomedical engineering, applied artificial intelligence, tribology, creative design and design modelling, advanced materials and material evaluation, renewable technology and sustainable design.
